Fish-6-10 pieces
Small onion-10-15 nos
Ginger-1 tspn
Garlic-1 tspn
Fenugreek seeds/Uluva-1/4 tspn
Kashmiri red chilli powder-2 2/12 tspn
Turmeric powder-1/4 tspn
Pepper powder-1/4- 1/2 tspn( adjust as per your spice level )
Kodumpuli-2 small pieces
Curry leaves
Coconut Oil
For tempering
Coconut Oil-2 tspn
Mustard seeds-1/4 tspn
Curry leaves
1. Soak kodumpuli in 3-4 hot water for 5-10 mints.
2. Heat oil in a meenchatti/pan and add small onion,Saute till they turn light brown.Add ginger , garlic and fenugreek seeds to it and saute again till the raw smell goes and the small onions turn golden brown.Then simmer the flame to lowest and add red chilli powder,turmeric powder and pepper powder to it.Saute for few seconds( don't burn the powders or over fry the small onions ) .Remove from fire and let it cool to room temperature.Then grind to a smooth paste adding 3-4 tblspn water.
3. In the same pan/meenchatti, add the ground paste ,soaked kodumpuli( along with water used for soaking ) and enough water.Let it boil.Then add fish pieces and sprinkle enough salt.Add curry leaves,cover and cook in medium flame till the gravy thickens.Remove from fire .
4. Heat 2 tspn oil in a small pan and splutter mustard seeds .Add curry leaves to it and let them change colour. Remove from fire and pour it into the fish curry.Cover and let it sit for 10 mints.
5. Serve with rice and kappa.
