Grandma janice's scones

2 Tablespoons yeast
1/4 cup lukewarm water
2 cups boiling water
1/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons shortening
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon salt

Prep. Time → 30 min

Cook Time → 60 min

1. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.
Thoroughly mix together then cool:
boiling water
sugar
shortening
butter
salt
Add dissolved yeast and 2 beaten eggs. Mix well. Add approximately 5 cups flour. Keep dough soft and easy to handle. Knead for 5 minutes. Store in oiled bowl. Cover and refrigerate overnight. When ready to use roll 1/4" and cut into squares. Let rise. Drop into hot fat and fry. Drain on paper towels.
Note: Can use any recipe also Rhodes.

We used this scone recipe many Sunday nights as a family activity!! They are so good and the family tradition has continued with my children!! We like having them with hot chocolate, honey, jam, and butter.
